Particle Emitters

Quickstart

    • A particle emitter can be added using the button on the left side of the experiment builder.
    • Particle emitters add particles to your system at the start of the experiment.
    • Once a particle emitter has been added, its settings can be accessed on the right of the experiment builder. You can define the number of particles (in moles) and their initial temperature. You can also select which particle type should be generated.
    • Any number of particle emitters can be added, but there needs to be at least one.
    • Particle emitters need to be placed within a chamber. The particles will spawn uniformly distributed in that chamber.

Initial temperature

      • Units: K
      • Troubleshooting: If you experience a warning in the Experiment viewer about particle loss, consider decreasing the particle temperature.

The initial average temperature in Kelvin for the particles emitted by the particle emitter. This value is used to (randomly) initialize the velocities of particles.

Number of moles

The number of moles emitted by this particle emitter. The number of actually simulated particles, \(N_{\text{particles}}\) equals:

$$ N_{\text{particles}}=n_{\text{moles}} \cdot N_{\text{particles per mole}} $$

Here, \(n_{\text{moles}}\) is the number of moles setting, \(N_{\text{particles per mole}}\) is the particles per mole setting available in the Scene tab.

Particle type

The particle type emitted by this particle emitter. Particle types can be modified, added and deleted in the Particles tab.
